One of my roommates was describing the Uniqlo logo (which has been all over New York for the past couple months). She described it as “The logo with the 4 red squares”.
I’m no graphic designer (or neurologist), but this statement made me realize how different real vs. remembered images are. Only certain aspects of an image make it into long-term memory - the general composition, the overall color, maybe the mood. Graphic designers need to test their images for sticking power.
